Check out this Bubba-made retaining wall.

What do you think it cost him to do this? Beside a bad back.

Well, it may be a bubba wall, but we built one like that at our condo beach dune in florida. Maybe 300 bags, under our dune walk to hold the dune and walk in place after a hurricane in late 1984. All the men in the building worked in a chain line. Spiked through the bags with short rebar and that wall held up from 1985 through countless storms until the hurricane took it out to sea last fall. Unfortunately it also took our dune walk, our dune, our pool, our recreation building 20 ground floor condo units, their furnishings and a few cars.

John,

The problem here is our expansive soil against these type of walls eventually takes them down. This wall is already being kicked out, just not visible so much in the picture.

This wall was built, back filled with black soil

Anything here over 48" is recommended to be designed by a SE.
