Help me out, my brain has had it this evening.About a foot of underground cable sticking up through the slab of a demolished garage. Not live. No obvious presence at house end - disconnection may predate the newer service panel. Click for photo (64875 Bytes)
Suggested recommendation for dealing with abandoned wiring under these circumstances? |

No doubt there's something else on the property that needs an electrician's attention? I'd recommend removal of exposed cable after electrician verifies it's not connected or connectable, if that's a word. |

If it buried like that, cut off both ends, leaving just enough to connect the hot, neutral and ground together, then solder them together or use an irreversible crimp large enough for all three.No. the code does not require that, but that wire does not look like it is in a condition to re reused. Doing as I stated above means that if the conductors are somehow energized, they will trip the overcurrent protection immediately. ------------------ Jerry Peck Ormond Beach (i.e., Daytona Beach area) =================================== Books-Reports-Scheduling-Tools |

I alway go back to my phrase "bare wires found, need to terminate properly".There is no need to cut off wires that may can be used later. Just put a box on them and cap the wires. The goal is to make them safe...not unusable. |
